Teresa by Kartell: elegance and innovation signed by Ferruccio Laviani

Kartell‘s family of lamps welcomes Teresa, designed by Ferruccio Laviani, into its collection. A table lamp made of recycled polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), a thermoplastic resin from the family of technopolymers, which fits perfectly into the groove of Kartell’s collections: a brand that has made technical experimentation with plastic materials, also with a view to sustainability, its stylistic hallmark.

Kartell and plastic, an unbreakable bond

It all began in 1949 from the creative intuition of the brand’s founder, chemical engineer Giulio Castelli. From the beginning, Castelli’s idea has always been to make objects with new features by applying the most modern production technologies. The intuition was to replace traditional furniture materials such as wood and glass, with plastics, making elegant complements and precious home accessories. It was a bold challenge, since at the time the most widespread idea was that plastic was a cheap, low-quality product.

Through the use of processing technologies traditionally used in other industries and continuous innovation, the Kartell brand has managed to make this material both valuable and functional.

Even today Kartell collections are entirely made from special mixes of plastic materials, as evidenced by the new Teresa table lamp made of recycled polymethylmethacrylate.

Teresa by Kartell: design and innovation

Ferruccio Laviani enriches Kartell’s lamp collection with a new creation: Teresa. This lamp with sinuous and fluid shapes opens like a flower, diffusing a warm and enveloping light. Its soft curves evoke the image of petals gently unfolding, illuminating the surrounding space with a warm and welcoming light, adding an element of sophisticated elegance to any environment. Teresa marks another step forward in the experimentation with innovative design ideas and advanced industrial production techniques, allowing for surprising curves and volumes never before seen in the field of lighting.

Thanks to its elegance and originality, Teresa becomes a design element of great value and personality, capable of giving any space a touch of refined beauty and an evocative atmosphere.

Laviani, continuing the work begun 75 years earlier by Giulio Castelli, experimented with advanced industrial molding techniques, exploring new possibilities in lighting design. Teresa represents a significant evolution in lamp design, combining aesthetics and functionality in a way that few other products can. Every curve and detail is designed to provide not only a source of light, but also a work of art that enriches the surroundings.

Who is Ferruccio Laviani

Born in Cremona in 1960, he studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, attending courses taught by Achille Castiglioni and Marco Zanuso. Since 1991 he has been Art Director at Kartell; a role he has also held for other major companies such as Flos, De Padova, Foscarini, Moroso, Society (Limonta) and Emmemobili.

His products can be found in the collections of the most renowned design brands, including Kartell, Foscarini, Dada-Molteni, Poltrona Frau, FontanaArte, Richard Ginori, Driade and many others.

Thanks to his extensive experience as a designer, he is often invited to speak at universities, design schools, fairs and institutions that promote culture and design.

At the same time as the launch of Teresa, Laviani presented two other future lighting projects: Bellissima, the lamp characterized by clean lines and a color palette of desaturated tones, offered in a new floor version, and Luce, which winks at the history of lighting with a contemporary interpretation, characterized by a curved structure that extends above the area to be illuminated, offering a versatile and adjustable light source.

Teresa’s materials and colors

Teresa is made of high-quality materials that ensure durability and refined aesthetics. The lamp is available in a variety of colors to suit different styles of decor: white, black, black with white diffuser, burgundy, and taupe. These color variations allow Teresa to be integrated into any context, from the most modern to the most classic.
